sao paolo, brazil
Hello Calvary San Juan Capistrano, The Lord is doing a good work here in Brazil but it has not been without battles. Let me start by sharing with you a little bit about what we are doing with the Vida e Verdade (Life and Truth) Bible school.
We have a discipleship school here in Campo Mourao that raises up young people who have a heart for the Lord. We give them solid bible teaching through the Bible, as well as practical service and ministry opportunities. We are in our forth year with the school and the Lord continues to be faithful.
Many of our former students have gone on to bless and serve in the Calvary Chapels around Brazil. It is so exciting to see how God is working in the lives of these young men and women and how He is giving them a love for the word and for people.
We are currently in the middle of our one year program. The students have already learned a lot, and are now having more opportunities to go out and live what they are learning. Besides class time we go in to the village next to the school property 3 days a week to minister to the community. It is awesome to see the kids we minister to receiving the love and care from the projects that we help with. We currently offer Jiu-Jitsu, Ballet, and soccer along with bible studies and worship for the children. God is doing a good work both in the children and in us. Besides the work in the community, the students are also preparing for a missions trip at the end of the year. That will be a time to really test the their faith and putting their knowledge in to action. We believe that the Lord will continue to work powerfully in them and through them in all these things.
As a family we have lived in Brazil for 12 years. It has been a fruitful 12 years but it has also been very difficult. We love the people and have learned how to minister to them in their culture. God has given us a burden to see more lives transformed by the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. Though our heart is still here in Brazil we also realize that we have been through some extreme difficulties and traumas over the years and have not fully recovered from some of those things completely. We are praying for an opportunity to for our family to have a time of rest in the states to allow us to refresh and recover and come back to Brazil ready to give 100 percent again. Please pray for the work here and for everything a furlough would involve . We thank you so much for all your prayers and support over the years. We praise God that He has sent you to lift up our arms and be part of our team.
With Love, The Cates
